This is why I founded a horror art jamming studio at 19.

Even if you think I’m crazy.

Hello! I'm Merida.

As a teenager, I was often lonely, anxious, and depressed. It felt like no one cared or could love me the way I needed. There were nights where I thought I couldn’t make it to daybreak.

On one of those nights, I gave myself permission to create. Alone in my room with a piece of paper and pencil, I said,

“Merida, Let it all out. This sadness doesn’t have to live inside you anymore.”

When I stepped back, I saw that I had drawn a little girl — me. Suddenly, the pain didn’t seem so big or scary anymore. It was just a girl, needing to be seen.

Art became a safe space for emotional release whenever I was struggling. As I released my darkness, it allowed for light to enter, too.

But, not everyone has a safe place to express their pain through art.

That’s why I founded SCURO. It’s not just an art studio, but a community and refuge. My dream is to make horror art accessible to everyone. So that you, too, can let the light shine in.

I can’t wait to see you at SCURO.

Love, Merida
