So, how did I start SCURO at 19?

Hi, I’m Merida!

This is 9-year-old me: a quiet kid who loved playing with friends, the color pink, and fluffy dogs. I hadn’t taken any art classes yet, but I was always doodling in the back of the classroom.

At 12, I met my best friend, Julien, who taught me how to draw. Slowly, I improved — and with “no natural talent”, I was able to my passion and pursue the arts at NAFA.

On the side, I waitressed, face painted for birthdays, and live painted at weddings. Eventually, at 19, I saved up 10k and borrowed from my parents to open my own art studio.

There were countless nights of sacrifice, fear, and doubt. I didn’t know if we would make it, but little by little, we grew. SCURO’s success isn’t just mine — it took a tribe of friends and family who believed in my vision, helped build the studio, and supported me when I felt like giving up.

I had no business experience, but I let life teach me. As a dropout armed with just a PSLE certificate, I plan to continue defying the limits of what people think an average, young girl can do.

At SCURO, our philosophy is simple: passion is everything. I believe that if you are brave enough to try, humble enough to learn, and driven by that burning passion, you can do great things.

Love, Merida
